Piano Circus explore the crazy world of Conlon Nancarrow who, doubting the abilities of human
performers, wrote almost exclusively for pianola: the group will perform one of the fiendish
player piano studies. Lynne Plowman's Hall of Mirrors takes the audience on a surreal fairground
ride of Chopin waltzes, ragtime, boogie woogie and Liberace whilst Miguel del Aguila's uproarious
Conga Line in Hell is a tongue in cheek South American take on Dante's Inferno. Steve Reich's
minimalist classic 'Six pianos' - the piece pianocircus formed to play more than 20 years ago
is heard here alongside the triptych 'Log, Line, Loud' by Graham Fitkin - three funky essays
in keyboard virtuosity from the acclaimed hit CD released by the group in the early 1990's.

Trilogies reflects the diversity of this repertoire and the many changes in the landscape
of new music- from Fitkin's punchy, energised post minimalist virtuostic works from 1989-90,
to Riley's avant-garde, reflective electronic sound world, for mixed acoustic pianos with
treatments and keyboards, written between 2007-2010.
Piano Circus present events that are often theatrically staged to create something different and
Trilogies is no exception, with the performance set ‘in the round' so the audience can be drawn
into the drama and interplay between the players.
The performance includes the World Premiere of Double Trio by Colin Riley.
This commission has been made possible with support from the Britten Pears Foundation.
