News: Piano Circus are the Associate Ensemble for 2010-11 Young Composer of Dyfed competition.

Piano Circus has a strong commitment to music education and has built a reputation for 'hands on' good quality education projects for the whole duration of its existence both in the UK and internationally. The ensemble has developed a range of approaches to the teaching of composition and performance techniques specific to multiple keyboard writing and the inclusion of current technologies. We offer a range of workshop and project models for use in primary and secondary schools, and in further education for composers and pianists.

The education programme has included projects at Dartington International Summer School, composition-recording projects for schools in East London (DfE funded), performance projects for Vale of Glamorgan Festival, University workshops in Indonesia, a community residency in rural France, a composition-performance project for music students in Budapest, composition and technology sessions with adult amateur musicians (such as coMA), a project in Buenos Aires for students with Aspergers and workshops in many London music Colleges and University departments.

In 2008 they ran a substantial project in partnership with Newcastle and Durham Universities, as part of I3, the composition strand of the Centre for Excellence in Music and Inclusivity. In 2009 workshops have included the Exhibition Road Festival for young composers and performers, presenting the BBC Proms Family Music Intro for Multiple Piano Day at RCM and the Keyboard Collective Project in partnership with sound festival, Scotland. This project ran between October 09 and April 2010 working with students across 4 schools in Aberdeenshire and the Highlands, leading to a public performance of student pieces for multiple keyboard ensembles.

Individual Piano Circus members have a wealth of teaching and workshop leading experience ranging from classroom teaching at Primary, GCSE and A level standard, composition and projects with organisations such as Live Music Now! and Sound and Music.

Many of our education projects have been funded by the British Council and educational events within our 20in09 20th anniversary festival were supported by PRS Foundation for new music and Arts Council England.
